What the 2022 season looks like

The 2022 season approaches and I know that I for one hope it is better than the last two, for obvious reasons.

The Sunday start times to remember this year are 11 a.m., 13.45 and15.30
The March Hare

We kick off with a dinghy three race trophy event on Sunday 27thMarch , The March Hare, with the first start at 11.00. It’s always nice to start the year with an event that has results decided on the day.

April Pursuit series

The following two Sundays, April 3rd and 10th, bring us the six races of the April dinghy Pursuit Series. First start again at 11.00.

Wednesday evening Bar Series

The ever popular dinghy Bar series starts on Wednesday 13th April at19.00 and runs every week through to 9th September. This is a fairly laid back series and always draws a fleet of all skill levels, which I love to see.

The Cruiser Avon Cup

These cruiser races open on Sunday 17th of April at the new start time of 11.00, with the first of six weekly races for the Avon Cup.

Spring pursuit and Spring Points

From 17th April for six weeks the dinghy racing has starts at 13.45 and15.30, for the Spring Pursuit and Spring Points Series respectively.

Easter Monday Easter Egg Special series

Easter Monday the 18th April has the famous dinghy Easter egg series of 3 races, with the first start at 11.00. This Easter every participant under 18 (and some over 18)should surely expect a chocalicious prize!!! My hopes for this year are that we get participants of every ability level, and that the experts in the fleet offer help and support to all. After all, the experts were utterly clueless with a badly rigged boat once as well! It is so easy to master sailing with a little support, so as I have said previously, come and talk to me and I will do my best to help out . There are a number of us time served ex RYA instructors that will happily offer some time to help you improve the basics.

The cruiser handicaps will be tweaked slightly for 2022, and I am pleased to say that this is with the agreement of all cruiser owners I have so far spoken to. No cruiser handicap changes will penalise any class, no class will be given a faster handicap.

Wishing you all good sailing in 2022

Chris Andrews Sailing Sec
